Press Release
Largest-Ever Clean Energy Event in Cambodia to Highlight Progress in Innovative Eco-Solutions From Public and Private Sectors
19 Oct 2022
The capital is gearing up to hold what will be the biggest-ever celebration of eco-innovation with the launch of Clean Energy Week 2022 (CEW22), organized by EnergyLab, an annual event dedicated to showcasing the efforts made by the public and private sector to go green.

This year's event, which will run from October 20 to 27 in venues around Phnom Penh, will be led by over 30 public and private sector partners from the Clean Energy ecosystem, leading government and embassy figures, and tens of thousands of participants from the general public.

Speaking about CEW22, the Country Director of EnergyLab Natharoun Ngo Son said, "This is our CEW 5th edition. The week attracts a larger crowd every year and it allows us to support Cambodia in building up its clean energy space and bridging the gap between several important stakeholders across sectors".

"Cambodia has such incredible clean energy resources, with abundant low-cost solar and wind power potential, that can be used to strengthen and decarbonize its economy, create green jobs, lower electricity prices and improve energy independence."

The event will officially be launched on Thursday the 20th at the Australian Ambassador's residence, with opening speeches from Ambassador Pablo Kang, UNDP Resident Representative Alissar Chaker, EDC Director General H.E. Keo Rottanak, and EnergyLab Country Director Natharoun Ngo Son.

Australian Ambassador, Pablo Kang, said, "Australia is a founding sponsor of Clean Energy Week and is committed to working with Cambodia to build a resilient, clean energy sector and unlock green trade and investment. Clean Energy Week is an excellent opportunity for policymakers, leaders, civil society, and innovators to come together to discuss Cambodia's clean energy transition to address climate change and take advantage of the benefits of the green economy."

During the next 7 days, there will be a wide variety of events across multiple key venues, including a student workshop and advocacy series at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, a sustainable start-up discussion at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center, a talk on Cambodia's energy policy and the development of clean energy in the region at the Royal University of Law and Economics, and
much much more.

Although this year's event is set to be the biggest yet, Clean Energy Week is an annual celebration of innovation that provides a unique platform for champions, advocates, and supporters of environmental solutions within Cambodia. The event, which dovetails at the end of the Cambodia Climate Change Summit 2022, demonstrates the appetite within Cambodia – a country especially vulnerable to climate change – to embrace more sustainable and cleaner solutions.
