Almost 800,000 Electric Vehicles (EVs) will be driving the roads of Cambodia by 2030, according to government plans. At the same time, energy efficiency (EE) codes and investments will be making a meaningful contribution to lowering energy-demand in the Kingdom, while renewable energy (RE) will be providing increasing power across the country - exciting plans!
In order for these new technologies and services to succeed at the scale and pace the government is calling for, new and updated skills will need to be taught and developed at TVET institutions across the country. Delivering these skills will have a huge impact on the wellbeing of thousands of Cambodians - spreading the benefits of the clean energy transition across the Kingdom. The three-year project is supported by the Liechtenstein Development Agency (LED), and headed by EnergyLab’s Pete and Vanna, and will be helping identify the current skills training needs that must be developed and supported so that Cambodia can meet its ambitious decarbonisation goals.
EnergyLab has started work on identifying what skills gaps exist today. Are there enough solar installation engineers? Who can fix an electric motorbike in an emergency? Just how inefficient is the office air conditioning unit, and who can install the most efficient option?
All these questions and more will be answered over the next three years through EnergyLabs Clean Energy Skills Program. We’ll then work with the private sector, Government and training providers to fill these gaps. We look forward to sharing updates with you as this program develops.
