Storing the Future: EnergyLab Laos Explores Battery Energy Storage at TAF-GTEI Workshop
2026-03-16 11:29
On 25 - 26 February, Dr. Tristan Bellingham, Technical Program Lead and Sinongpheng (Tik) Bouphanouvong, Program Manager, from the EnergyLab Laos office attended an insightful workshop organised by the Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) - Green Team Europe Initiative (GTEI) dedicated to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As we transition toward a greener grid, BESS is emerging as a critical pillar of modern power systems.
BESS is more than just a trend; it is the backbone of a stable, renewable-led future. By providing rapid grid response and enabling the "time-shifting" of solar and wind power, BESS ensures that green energy is reliable.
The sessions bridged the gap between technical engineering and project finance, providing the roadmap needed to make these projects bankable in the ASEAN context.
We were honored to be joined by colleagues from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI).
The Path Forward: Our next step is to convene with MOIC and EDL to share these insights and discuss how to integrate this knowledge into the Lao energy landscape.
Thank you to TAF-GTEI for organizing, and to Australia and the EU for their continued investment in the region's energy transition.
