International Day of Clean Energy

2026-01-29 10:41
Clean energy is critical to environmental sustainability. But in Southeast Asia, clean energy also sits at the heart of our economic future. Economic competitiveness is no longer driven by low labor costs alone, but by our ability to generate clean energy and participate in global value chains that are rapidly decarbonising. This transition is creating thousands of green jobs and driving investment, transforming people’s livelihoods while making our communities more sustainable and greener.

TODAY, we celebrate the abundant resources our planet provides—the sun, rain, and wind—the innovative technologies driving our energy transition, and most importantly, the people who are the backbone of this evolution. Happy International Day of Clean Energy!

Across our work in Cambodia, Laos, and the whole region, we see clean energy technologies transforming lives every day. Today, we’re sharing four powerful stories from Cambodia that capture this evolution:

Floating village - Hundreds of fishing families and a primary school on Cambodia's lake rely on solar energy to power their daily lives and sustain children's education.

Eco-faith - Venerable monk Im Teang adopts solar power at Wat Seri Sakor Daun Sdoeung, reducing costs, illuminating the temple, and inspiring the local community to embrace clean energy.

Powering the Hope - A street food vendor uses solar-powered light to extend her business beyond sunset, transforming night into opportunity and fueling hope for her family's future.

Absorb the light, arise the grow - A Siem Reap farmer running a hydroponic farm switches from unreliable grid electricity to solar energy, stabilizing his operations and protecting his crops while reducing costs.
